Purolator sent me their complete product line of oil filters to check out and test in my 2006 Honda S2000 and as luck would have it my car was in need of an oil change. Purolator invented the oil filter back in 1923 and they’ve been revolutionizing the market ever since. Professionals as well as do-it-yourselfers all over the US trust Purolator so I was excited to give their brand new Purolator Synthetic a try. With the advancements in synthetics, the oils themselves are lasting longer but a standard oil filter needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. The Purolator Synthetic oil filter was specifically designed to be more durable and provide more capacity over conventional filters so that motorists could realize the full benefit of synthetic oil. By developing a more rigid wire-meshed backed media as well as adding more capacity to the filter design, Purolator was able to maintain the same 99.9% filter efficiency they offer in their PureONE line of filters but increase the longevity of the filter from 3,000 to 10,000 miles.
I’ve been using the Purolator PureONE filter for a while in my other cars and I always use synthetic oils so moving over to the Purolator Synthetic filter is just a no-brainer going forward. If you’ve ever tried to remove a conventional filter before, you’ll recognize that the textured grip available in both lines is a huge benefit. It’s nearly impossible to remove your car’s drain plug without getting oil on your hands and a smooth surface mixed with oil really makes taking off a filter difficult. I’ve never found oil filter wrenches all that helpful as in many cases, there just isn’t enough space to use them so I look for filters that offer this sort of textured grip.
My Honda has a pretty sophisticated oil life indicator. I trust Honda’s oil life indicator because, unlike a simple mileage calculator, Honda’s actually takes into consideration your driving style, engine temperatures and other factors to determine exactly how worn your engine oil is getting. So even though I may not be waiting to change my oil every 10,000 miles, I am always looking for ways to make my engine last longer. This new Synthetic filter gives me piece of mind, knowing that it has additional capacity and more durability than the OEM filter ever did.
